We dedicate this show to the women/femmes who continue to persist and resist the colonial system of oppression against humanity.
CLENCH includes photography, performance, portraiture, tapestry and film.
The motif of these curated works embodies identity politics, radical subversive aesthetics and our personal meditations on nature/ancestral reverence.
In 2020, we were ordered to go inside, mask up, social distance, and adhere to the new order of life or face serious consequences. Before Covid wretched the Earth, spirit was calling us back to the womb - for a serious re-wilding. Majority of the works on view were conceptulized and conjured in the seasons of Fall/Winter 2019 - 2020 in Yosemite National Park, Tepoztlan, and Mexico City (TTP + Women’s March). A period of nesting, stillness, incubation while being in a global lockdown.
During these past three years, we underwent a metaphysical molting of our own exoskeletons; in return, we gained a richer inner knowing about the core of our artistic journeys. In the midst of collective crisis, the power of women/femmes experimenting in ritualistic practice creatively, provided a strengthened sisterhood.
Witch Hunts were acts of FEMICIDE.
