Crafting the Future: A Feminist Fibre Arts History Workshop
Sunday August 4th, 2024 at 3pm PST
"Crafting the Future" is a seminar and crafting workshop at Heavy Manners Library. This workshop combines an art history lecture with a hands-on quilting project, guiding participants in exploring how feminist artists have used craft practices as tools for world-making, challenging dominant narratives, and envisioning alternative future realities. After the lecture, participants will create their own quilt blocks - a personal piece inspired by the work of the artists we discuss. These quilt blocks will then be combined into a larger community quilt, documenting our shared learning and collective imaginings of the future. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own! No prior quilting experience is necessary.
