It's Yours: Hip-Hop & the Internet + Dangriga In Time Fundraiser Screening (9/20)

Saturday, September 20th, 2025 at 7pm PST

Heavy Manners Library, LA STEREO TV, Thurz + Party In My Living Room, and cc welcome you to join us for an evening filled with films and discussion in support of Jail Support LA. Tickets are donation-based, no one will be turned away. Please give what you can. All ticket proceeds will be given to Jail Support LA as they work tirelessly to protect immigrant rights and support protesters on the frontlines.

We will be showing the feature documentary It's Yours: Hip-Hop & the Internet, directed by Marguerite de Bourgoing, as we celebrate its recent release on Tubi.

By the dawn of the 21st century, Hip Hop sales had reached an all-time high, but the doors remained locked, and the music industry held the keys. Young artists began to self-market on the internet, challenging the monolith of the music industry as we knew it. Filmed over ten years, It's Yours: Hip-Hop & the Internet explores the era when artists like Wiz Khalifa, Lil B, Kendrick Lamar and Doja Cat turned to Twitter, YouTube, and Myspace to cultivate fandom and new forms of distribution.

We will also screen "Dangriga In Time," a short documentary by BOB$LED and Rachard Johnson, that takes you on artist Thurz' journey back to Belize to explore his Garifuna roots. The film captures the evolution of the Belizean Dream, from his parents’ humble beginnings with dirt floors and candles for light, to building a new home and legacy for the next generation, and inspiring him to create Party In My Living Room. Scored by his latest album, YANNICK KOFFI IN TIME, this project brings together music, culture, and storytelling to honor where he comes from while inspiring what’s next. This is more than a documentary—it’s a story of roots, resilience, and legacy.

The album YANNICK KOFFI IN TIME is available everywhere.Limited vinyl + UNION x YKIT capsule available: thurz.co | UNION

We will also show a portion of the upcoming PIMLR Album documentary, which takes viewers behind the scenes of the making of the first PIMLR album and Thurz' exploration of using technology within the process.

Following the films, we will host an open discussion about what tools we can use today (and build for tomorrow) to empower ourselves as community members and artists. Since these documentaries depict the impact of technology on both music and activism, as well as the importance of heritage and culture within artistry we encourage you to participate and share your thoughts on these topics.
